Following closely on the heels of their announcement regarding location tagging, Twitter has announced the introduction of yet another service, called the @anywhere platform.
The @anywhere platform will make it possible for users to send as well as to receive tweets from several different websites, without having to go to Twitter.com or any third-part application first.
Twitter has approved of open technology in the past too, but that was through APIs. The new feature will have a much simpler approach. Interested site owners will only have to drop a few lines of JavaScript into their site HTML.
To start with, the sites that will be include this new feature will be Amazon, AdAge, Bing, Citysearch, Digg, eBay, The Huffington Post, Meebo, MSNBC.com, The New York Times, Salesforce.com, Yahoo! and YouTube.
Users will be able to follow tweets from various sources, and also send them, even while they are browsing other web sites.
The feature was announced by Twitter CEO Evan Williams at SXSWi 2010. Details on the feature will be announced at Twitter’s developer conference, Chirp, on 14th April 2010.
