Converging Google’s Video and Social Networks
Orkut users can now provide a link to their favourite video, or video playlist on YouTube or Google Video. All three properties are owned by Google, and are free to use.
All in all, this growth towards convergence or interlinking of their various properties, including yesterday’s announcement about showing more local results in the OneBox, shows the potential media dominance they could achieve and the value this would provide to their advertisers and search users in the long run.
Yahoo! have also recognised the benefit of allowing users to enter any search query and delivering results accordingly. Their mobile search offering with Go 2.0, called the oneSearch is supposed to recognise when a user searches for local, image, video etc type queries and deliver search results accordingly.
