MSN Reporter: Microsoft’s Social News Service
MSN Reporter, a social news site similar to Digg was created by the Dutch MSN team back in October 2006. The service is now officially launched in the Netherlands, Belgium and Norway.
Users can share and rate news on the site via a simple interface that is also integrated with Windows Live. Alerts, add to Live.com and BlogIt! options allow widespread adoption and sending posts straight to Windows Live Spaces, which is a very popular site.
Interest in the new service has been considerable, with over half a million visitors to the site in just the 1st month and over three-quarters of a million in the 2nd month. Popular articles get as many as 10,000 votes and 1,000 comments, making this a huge potential market for traffic generation. Moreover, the top 4 headlines from MSN Reporter are currently displayed on the MSN.nl homepage, driving even more traffic to the destination sites.
