Mobile phones and the Internet have become an inseparable part of our lives and the two are now being used to help celebrate Valentine’s day.
Bing conducted a poll of users between the ages of 16 and 35 years and came across some interesting findings. They found that men were doubly likely to use their mobile phones to find the perfect romantic restaurant or an appropriate gift. Whereas, only about a third of users use their mobiles for directions when they get lost on their way to a new restaurant.
Keeping these findings in mind, the Bing team made arrangements with Digital Dating Experts, Debra Goldstein and Olivia Baniuszewicz to provide interesting Valentine’s day tips to their users.
Content has been created specifically for the occasion so that users can go to m.bing.com on their mobile to get details about restaurants, theatres and bars.
Special tips are provided for men, including setting up a date near to the location of the woman they are pursuing. Romantic and easy recipes are also available. Flirtexting tips also tells users to avoid using smileys, acronyms and emotional messages. While replying to a message, users are advised to wait a while but not for too long.
Developers have also created mobile Web applications to help users find partners and gifts. Many of the smartphone apps are available for free, such as apps from SpeedDate, eHarmony, Match.com and OKCupid.
Gifts available on mobiles range from Valentine’s Day cards, to flowers and diamonds. Romantic music and poetry are also available.
This is the first time that major online brands are focusing on events on mobile and creating special content and sales for mobile, just as they normally would in the wired world.
