Mobile Search Trends 2006 study was recently published by mobilePeople. The study presents information on mobile search use and habits from data gathered in European markets during the period from December 23 to December 27, 2006.

The study found that search volumes tracked by mobilePeople increased more than tenfold over the same period last year.

The most popular mobile search categories in order of popularity were:

  1. Taxis
  2. Takeaways
  3. Restaurants
  4. Supermarkets
  5. Consumer electronics

This clearly shows that mobile search is still used for basic necessities much more than mere browsing or information gathering.

i think mobile search will catch up, but it will remain in infancy for a long long time. One thing is correct. People using mobile will look for basic necessities. When people are on move, they look for something immidately local. http://www.searchbox.mobi

Yes immideiacy of search in mobile is of paramount consideration. when on mobile, people want to find things urgent, and immidate, so hand held search will be really handy in that context.
