It has been reported by The British Retail Consortium that mobile retail searches in the country are on the rise.
It was found that during the second quarter of the year, total retail search volume has gone up by 27% compared to the figures during the same period last year.
The major part of this growth has come from the increase in mobile searches, which grew by 216% compared to the same period last year.
The search volume for online retailers has gone up by 21% compared to the 14% increase in search volumes for multi-channel retailers, who use the internet as well as stores.
International mobile searches are also on the rise. U.K. retailers being searched by consumers based overseas. There was an increase of 34% in this sector of search. On the other hand the number of U.K. based consumers making overseas searches grew by 76% during the second quarter of 2011.
London remains the core of online shopping in the U.K. registering 36% of all retail searches.
Wedding dresses, garden furniture and other DIY articles are high on the list of retail searches being carried out. Among electronic goods, the iPad 2 that was launched last March, and the iPhone 5 which is due to be released in September are reportedly the most searched items.
According to Peter Fitzgerald, retail director for Google, even though volumes dipped in April due tot eh warm weather as well as bank holidays, and then picked up again in May, the volumes of mobile search remained constant through out, due to the ‘always on’ nature of mobile users.
